Locating Deep Rebar
Location of deep rebar (reinforcing steel) in reinforced concrete can be difficult. Cover meters and the Hilti Ferroscan are typically limited to approximately 100mm. But what if you need to locate deeper rebar? It may be necessary to detect and locate deep rebar prior to coring or cutting concrete, or simply to confirm its presence for structural calculations.
We offer Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys for the location of deep rebar. This technique offers the following advantages:
- High resolution scans to detect rebar up to 500mm deep
- Identify deep rebar location, orientation and depth of cover
- Rebar can be located in real time
- GPR scan data can be saved for off-site analysis including AutoCAD plotting
- Only single-sided access required
- Alternative antenna frequencies to enable even deeper rebar location
Ground penetrating radar can be used with alternative antenna frequencies to increase or decrease penetration depth. A higher frequency antenna (typically in the range 2.6GHz to 1.5GHz) provides high resolution and depth penetration up to 500mm. A 900MHz antenna will detect rebar up to 900mm deep. Lower frequency antennas can detect reinforcing mats up to 2m deep or more, but will not resolve individual rebar.
